Sharp Distance
video installation, 2 screens in a long box, looping, 2006
Gallery X, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago

The first image the viewer sees at the end of a long, darkened box, shows people far away doing something on a hilltop.  The viewer then walks around to the other end of the box and is able to look down directly on top of what the pair is doing. They are playing a game: the image is clear, bright and close, but the fact that the game is fictional and improvised with foreign pieces suggests that even as we are able to look more closely, we may be at a similarly frustrating level of misunderstanding.
